#6 The battle was first started on a cornfield that swept to a church. The south surrounded the north and up a trap. The north ended up falling into the trap. As a result the north lost 2,200 men and retreated. Later on that day Gen McClellan attacked the confederates and broke through the center of their defense. Even though he had the weapons to finish the battle, he decided to retreat. The Battle at Antietam was one of the most bloodiest single day battles. The Battle of Antietam a shock of both armies came with a loss of a life. Sunken road came to be known as bloody lane from all the tragic deaths. One day of battle they where fighting in the fog and had no clue where they where so sometimes when they went to shoot they shot they own men.
